I have my own counselor at my high school. Does that mean I don’t need an after-school counselor?

In the U.S., regardless of whether you attend a public school or private school, one high school counselor usually serves hundreds of students. Therefore, during student consultations, they can only focus on helping students meet the minimum graduation requirements.

However, this may not be sufficient as most high school students will need a comprehensive plan which carefully and strategically incorporates their academic and extracurricular activities.

As a result, students' high school counselors are not as helpful when it comes to guiding students to become admitted to their dream schools.

What’s my responsibility after signing up for your counseling program?

We expect you to fulfill the responsibility of cooperating with your counselor. While our counselors can provide you with well-planned counseling and guidance, it is expected that you accomplish each step in a timely manner. An effective high school plan requires students to be proactive and motivated while working with a professional counselor.

I plan to apply to art schools. Does this mean I only need to focus on my art portfolio instead of counseling?

The art portfolio is, indeed, a crucial part of your art school application. However, top art schools such as RISD, SVA, Art Center, and others also require you to maintain good academic standing and have a strong extracurricular background. Therefore, we always emphasize the equal importance of your art portfolio, academics, and extracurricular activities for your art school application.

I’m currently on my high school’s JV sports team. How do I balance my sports training with my academic preparation?

When we work with students who have been participating in sports for several years, we first determine if the student is planning to apply to colleges as a student athlete.

If so, we also need to evaluate if the student is qualified for athletic-based admission since varsity athlete application has different deadlines, student preparation expectations, and other application procedures.

Based on our comprehensive evaluation, we will provide suggestions to students so they can strategically incorporate and plan their sports practice, academic preparation, and extracurricular activities accordingly.

I’m a high school junior, so is it too late for me to enroll in high school planning?

We believe the earlier the better. However, we do have a few high school juniors who enroll in our counseling program at a later time. Once you determine that you would like additional support, we recommend that you speak to our counseling department as soon as possible in order to evaluate your background and strengthen any shortcomings in your academics and extracurriculars.

What is your specialty? / What does your high school counseling program provide?

We provide targeted assistance, including one-on-one coaching and counseling sessions to ensure that each student’s unique needs are met. While developing student plans, we always focus on building students' ‘major spike.’ We guarantee that each student plan is major-orientated, unique, and compelling.
